Mason’s triples doom Bobcats to first TCC loss

OTTAWA LAKE – Erie Mason’s defense put the clamps on the Whiteford offense.

Carson and Casey Brown did the rest.

The duo turned up the heat in the fourth quarter, stretching what was a four-point lead late in the first half to a 20-point advantage and leading the Eagles to a 49-31 victory over the No. 12 Bobcats.

The Bobcats couldn’t get its offense rolling.

Mason led 21-14 at halftime. After a Chris Worden driving basket, Whiteford’s Cole Giesige cut it to 23-17 with a 3-pointer with 5:22 left in the third quarter. Carson Brown responded quickly with a triple, then hit another with 3:26 left in the third quarter to put Mason up 30-17. Casey Brown followed that with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it 33-19.

Any chance Whiteford hoped to climb back into the game in the final quarter were dashed early. Carson Brown and Alex Langenderfer hit back-to-back triples as Mason went up 42-22 and put the game out of reach.

Carson Brown finished with 20 points and Casey Brown 13 for the Eagles. Erie Mason hit nine 3-pointers on the night.

Whiteford dropped its first Tri-County Conference game of the season but still have a one-game lead in the league.
