OTTAWA LAKE — It’s not every day that Whiteford beats Bedford in boys basketball.
In fact, it’s been 61 years.
The Bobcats pulled out a 59-54-win Friday over the Kicking Mules, the first victory for Whiteford in the series since Nov. 29, 1961. It’s the first ever win for the Bobcats against Bedford in the Bobcat gym.
Luke Rasor scored 14 points, Shea Ruddy 12 and Cole Giesige 11 to lead the Bobcats. Josh Hill hit three 3-pointers and scored nine points.
Whiteford built a 45-33 lead going into the fourth quarter but the Mules outscored the Bobcats 21-14 in the fourth quarter and cut it to a six-point lead late. Ruddy hit four free throws in the fourth quarter and Rasor scored five points in the final eight minutes.
The Bobcats will take a 13-7 record into next week’s Division 3 district tournament.
Whiteford went into overtime to win the JV game.
