OTTAWA LAKE — Berlynn Keller and Unity Nelson combined on a one-hit, eight-strikeout performance Monday as the Whiteford Bobcats beat Toledo Whitmer 6-0.
Keller started the game and pitched three innings, walking one, striking out one and giving up one hit. Nelson pitched the last four hitless innings, walking three and striking out seven.
“Whitmer is well coached, with good pitching and some very dangerous hitter,” Bobcat coach Matt VanBrandt said. “They will win their league. Today our pitchers did an excellent job with their locations, and overall, it was a good win against a good team.”
The Bobcats first run Monday came in the fourth inning, when Jess Ulery scored on a great slide after a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nelson.
The Bobcats managed six hits against the Panthers. Keller homered and singled, and Aly VanBrandt homered and doubled.
Whiteford is 16-2 and 4-0 in the TCC. They take on Sand Creek Wednesday.
“We will push the reset button tomorrow and focus on our next challenge,” VanBrandt said.
