Whiteford beat Skyline 8-6 and then Lincoln 13-0 to win its own round-robin tournament.
After a weather-delayed start, Whiteford lost the coing flip, but as the visitors they jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first against Skyline. Berlynn Keller earned the win and improved to 10-0 on the season. Shay Alexander and Aly VanBrandt both went 3-3 against the Eagles.
In the finals, Whiteford again lost the coin flip, but as visitors started with three runs in the top of the first. That was plenty for Nelson, who gave up only one hit and struck out 12 in five innings. She improved to 9-1.
“Lincoln is a good Division 1 team that has several quality wins this season. Our girls knew this and were excited for the challenge. We scored early and then let Nelson pound the strike zone. It was one of her best outings of the year. Offensively, we really had some great swings against their lefty and managed 13 hits in 5 innings.”
Ambrelle Billau was 4-4 with 2 doubles, 4 runs and 4 RBI against Lincoln. Keller was 3-4 with 3 runs and Kaydence Sheldon was 2-3 with 2 doubles.
“Skyline, Clay, and Lincoln were all happy that we got in some games today. It wasn’t looking good mid-week, but luckily the forecast was wrong. The consolation game was awesome too – it had two innings of international tie-breaker, with Skyline winning 11-10.”
Whiteford improved 20-2.
