Whiteford clinches share of TCC softball crown with sweep of Summerfield

PETERSBURG – The first Tri-County Conference spring sports champion was crowned Thursday when Whiteford took two wins from Summerfield to improve to 10-0 in the TCC with two games to play.

Sand Creek is 6-2 in the league and in second place. Summerfield entered the doubleheader with two league losses as well. The Bobcats need to win one of two games vs. Erie Mason next week in order to win the TCC outright.

Whiteford beat Summerfield 8-2 and 15-0.

Berlynn Keller struck out nine and allowed just two hits in Game 1.

“Madison Waterhouse spun the ball well tonight against us in game one,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “We will learn from that since we will probably see her again in districts.  She did a nice job and kept us off balance.”

Unity Nelson earned the win and struck out 10 in a 4-inning mercy-rule win in Game 2.

The Bobcats scattered 23 hits in two games, including four each from Aly VanBrandt, Ambrelle Billau, and Keller.

The Bobcats finish the TCC with a doubleheader Wednesday against Erie Mason. Before that matchup, however, the Bobcats will square off against Jackson Northwest, the No. 1 team in Division 2, at home at 5pm. Monday. The Bobcats are ranked No. 2 in Division 4.
