Whiteford’s softball team will seek its 15th all-time regional championship Saturday.
The second-ranked Bobcats looms large over the field in Dansville.
Whiteford (36-4) takes on Dansville (22-13) at 10 a.m. with Addison (17-17) playing Reading (15-11) in the second game.
The Bobcats have set a school record for wins and have two outstanding pitchers in sophomore Unity Nelson (18-3) and Berlynn Keller (17-0). Indiana University commit Aly VanBrandt is batting over .700 and returning All-Stater Ambrelle Billau is hitting .511.
Addison is in its first regional since 2008. The Panthers take on Reading, who won its district games by scores of 12-3, 17-2 and 22-1. The Rangers have four players with at least four home runs and split the pitching duties between Blakeleigh Cornstubble and Ariana McDowell.
The Panthers split with Reading a few weeks ago, losing 7-6 in extra innings and winning 3-1.
Panther co-head coach Kelly Gahn says the Panthers are excited to be still playing.
“If we can come out and attack the ball and hit, we have a good chance,” Gahn said. “The girls are extremely excited. We’ve accomplished some of our goals this year and are hoping for one more.”
