Assists bring Bobcats third straight victory

By DOUG DONNELLY

BRITTON — Whiteford coaches emphasized making good passes in practice this week and the Bobcats took the message to heart.

With 11 assists on their first 16 field goals, the Bobcats used runs of 13-1, 11-0 and 12-0 during the game to pull away from Britton Deerfield Thursday, 81-53.

“We wanted to focus on taking a good shot instead of a quick shot,” Whiteford coach Nick Abalos said. “We had 10 guys score tonight. I love to see that.”

The Bobcats fell behind 9-4 early as BD went on a 5-0 run of its own.

The Bobcats, however, responded in a big way. Shea Ruddy hit a 3-pointer, Lincoln Joerin hit a jumper and Luke Rasor scored on an offensive rebound to make it 14-10. Joerin then found Josh Hill open at the top of the key for a triple and a 17-10 lead.

BD came out in the second half and hit two shots, but the Bobcats went right back to work. Noah Stevens (12 points) scored off a steal, Rasor hit a short jumper, a Kolby Masserant steal led to a Hill bucket and Joerin knocked down a 3-pointer for a 32-17 lead. Whiteford closed the first half on a 9-4 run to make it 43-23, then outscored BD 26-11 I the third quarter.

Rasor finished with 18 points and Hill added 12. Ryin Ruddy scored eight points.

Logan Shiels led BD with 15 points.

The Bobcats, who have won three straight, are 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the TCC.
