OTTAWA LAKE – Summerfield had an answer for Whiteford every step of the way Friday in beating the Bobcats 60-49.
The Bulldogs led 26-17 after the first quarter and took a four-point lead into halftime. The Bobcats made it a 5-point game on a triple by Josh Hill early in the third quarter, but a driving layup and three-point play by Teddy Gault put the Bulldogs up eight again.
Hill again cut it to a five-point game at 45-40 with 2:48 left in the third quarter but a bucket by Jha Jha Hornbeak made it 46-40 going into the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs started the final period with a bucket by Brenden Myshock and a 3-pointer from the corner by Tyler Dafoe to go up nine with 7:07 left.
The closest the Bobcats would get the rest of the way was eight points.
Gault and Dafoe scored 13 points each for Summerfield while Brody St. John scored 11 and Myshock 10 for the 14-3 Bulldogs. Summerfield, who came into the game ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press poll, swept the season series with Whiteford for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Whiteford was led by Ryin Ruddy’s 14 points. Hill and Kolby Masserant scored 11 points each.
The Bobcats are 11-7 overall and 6-4 in the TCC.
