CLINTON – One of the best seasons in Whiteford history came to a close Tuesday when the Bobcats lost 54-33 to Onsted in the Division 3 regional semifinals at Clinton.
“I told the boys after the game that that one of the things I don’t love about coaching high school sports is that 99 percent of the teams end with a loss,” Whiteford coach Jordan Bollin said. “Although tonight was frustrating, it doesn’t diminish all the great things we achieved this season.”
The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the 23-2 Wildcats responded with a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. Whiteford pulled within seven points on a 3-pointer by Keegan Thomas with inside the four-minute mark of the third quarter and again on a Cole Griffith bucket with 2:15 left in the quarter but couldn’t get any closer.
Onsted, the LCAA champions, won for the ninth straight game.
Griffith led the Bobcats with 8 points while Thomas, who sank two 3-pointers, had 6.
Whiteford finished the season with 21 wins, becoming just the fourth team in school history to reach 20 wins. They are also just the third team in school history to win both league and district titles in the same season.
The Bobcats also set the school record for fewest points against average at 46.5.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of this group,” Bollin said. “I genuinely enjoyed going to practice every single day and couldn’t have asked for a better group of young men to coach.”
