Whiteford baseball falls in district finals

ERIE – Whiteford’s baseball team reached the district finals Saturday, but came up on the short-end of a 9-2 championship game score and finished the season 25-9.

The Bobcats beat Taylor Prep 16-1 in the first game of Saturday’s Division 3 district at Erie Mason, but lost 9-2 to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in the finals.

The Bobcats managed just two hits against Falcon hurler Steel Decator, who struck out eight and walked just one in seven innings.

Luke Henegar and Jake Scott managed the two Bobcat hits.

In the first game, Whiteford took advantage of 12 Taylor Prep errors. The Bobcats scored twice in the first, four times in the third and eight times in the sixth inning. Brody Masters had three hits while Caden Schroyer and Jake Scott had two hits each. Schroyer struck out nine and got the pitching win.

With 25 wins, the Bobcats had one of its best seasons in school history. Only four other teams have won more games in a season at Whiteford.
