NOVI – Grass Lake scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to come-from-behind and beat Whiteford, 4-3, in the Division 3 quarterfinal at Novi High School.

The Bobcats had led 3-1 since the fifth inning, but the defending state champions were able to push across three runs in the top half of the final inning to secure the win and advance to Friday’s semifinals at Michigan State University.

The Bobcats scored three runs on four hits while the Warriors finished with just two hits.

“We didn’t play clean enough to defeat the defending champs,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “We fought hard until the end, and I’m proud of this group.”

Bobcat senior Addeson Cousino had three of Whiteford’s four hits. Peyton Welch struck out 12 and walked six on the day.

“We had tremendous growth throughout the season, and our two seniors – Bailey Spradling and Addeson Cousino – were great leaders on and off the field.”

The Bobcats season comes to an end 23-12.
