Bobcats come back to beat SMCC and win D7 district title

MONROE – In one of the biggest victories in school history, the Whiteford Bobcats overcame a power outage and a flurry of second half touchdowns to beat SMCC 38-34 and win a Division 7 district championship.

Tre Eitniear scored on a 1-yard plunge with 59 seconds left after a lengthy on-field delay for a power outage in the stadium. His short run put the cap on a comeback drive for the ages and put the Bobcats in front for good.

Whiteford led early 24-7 but fell behind twice in the fourth quarter. Both times, however, they marched down the field and re-took the lead.

On SMCC’s final drive, Ryan Thomas had a key sack and a fourth down pass fell short, leading to a Bobcat celebration.

SMCC (9-2) came into the playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed, 17 places higher than the Bobcats (9-2).

With the win, Whiteford will return home next week to host Jonesville in the regional final
