Whiteford’s runners were in Dexter Michigan (Hudson Mills Metro Park) this morning. The last time they raced they battled 90 degree heat. This morning the temperature hadn’t reached 50 when the middle school girls stepped to the line. The hard work put in at practice is starting to show as all 4 girls ran personal best times. Annie Gapp was our top girl covering the 2 mile course in 15:27. Next was Madelyn Cousino running 17:33, Tuesday Brochious 18:16, and London Hodgkins 19:35. As a team the girls were 10th.
Our boys were up next and continued the string of personal bests. Elliot Rogers was 13th (medaled) in a time of 12:18 for the 2-miles. He was followed by Luke Murphy 14:44, Cooper Bieber 14:50, Keegan Masters 16:15, Case Mensing 16:43, Logan DeBruyne 18:37, and Sam Murphy 27:46. The boys as a team finished 9th.
The Middle school team next runs Monday Oct. 9 in the Morenci Middle School Invitational.
The High School format was a little different today.
Freshman and Sophomores ran together for scores, and Junior and Seniors then combined for scores. In the Fr/So girls race Mia Miller ran 27:28. This was a season best for Mia. Josie Emerson ran 29:28 a personal best, and Addie Hodgkins was 36:00 a season best. Those girls combined to finish 8th. The Fr/So boys really kicked out hard at the gun. Daniel Gapp was our top boy 21:39 Season Best. Trenton Kolmar closing hard just missed catching Daniel. Trenton’s time was 21:42 a Personal Record. Christian Rogers 23:45 was a Personal Record for him, and Isaac Gapp 25:01 also a Personal Record for him. The boy teamed up to finish 9th.
Jr/Sr girls hit the course next as Molly Bartlett and Kassidy Homolka were our only runners. Molly’s time of 26:36 was a personal record for her, and although not a PR, Kaissidy ran an outstanding race in 28:15.
With only two runners, we were not able to score as a team.
Whiteford’s Jr/Sr boys finally got there chance and did not disappoint. Corbin Willis led the boys with a 19:25 (a Season Best). Camden Willis was next 20:37, Nathan Walker continued his strong running dropping another minute off what was a personal best on Tuesday. Nathan ran 20:45. Logan Bunge-Lance wrapped things up for the boys with a 21:11. As a team these boys placed 7th. I was extremely pleased with what saw today. We asked our runners to attach the course this morning, going out extra strong at the start. This taxed a couple of runners at the end of the races, but I was very happy with what I saw.
The Varsity team will next run Tuesday Oct. 10 at Indian Creek Park in Lambertville.
