Whiteford takes first place at Airport baseball tournament

CARLETON — The Whiteford Bobcat baseball team entered the weekend unranked in the latest coaches’ association statewide poll. That could change after the great performance Saturday by the Bobcats.

Whiteford defeated Division 1 Monroe, Tri-County Conference rival Summerfield and Airport, ranked No. 9 in Division 2, by a combined score of 17-1.

Andrew Toda won for the fourth time this season, going nine innings to defeat Airport 3-1, which gave the Bobcats first place in the Airport Tournament. Toda allowed just three hits by the Jets and became the winner on a two-run double by Antonio DiTerlizzi in the ninth. Thomas Eitniear had a two-hit day and Nolan Adams a double.

Adams pitched a 6-0 shutout against Monroe, walking just one and striking out 10 Trojans batters. He allowed four hits. At the plate, Ty Eitniear had two hits and scored twice. Thomas Eitniear, Antonio DiTerlizzi and Toda also had hits.

Four Bobcats had multiple hits in the 8-0 win over Summerfield. Ty and Thomas Eitniear, DiTerlizzi and Alex Kohler had two hits apiece. Nathan Bauman was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

The 7-1 Bobcats host Dundee Monday.
