Bobcats sweep Bulldogs, clinch share of fourth straight TCC baseball title

OTTAWA LAKE – It was a night to remember for the Whiteford Bobcat baseball team.

The Bobcats swept Morenci, 10-0 and 15-1, clinching no worse than a share of its fourth consecutive TCC baseball championship.

Antonio DiTerlizzi and Thomas Eitniear slugged home runs and Andrew Toda and Nolan Adams picked up pitching victories for the Bobcats, who improved to 12-0 in the TCC and 19-4 overall.

In the opener, Eitniear, Toda and Corbin Willis had two hits apiece while Adams and Hunter Lake each had a pair of RBI. Toda had two doubles and Eitniear had a triple and scored three times. On the mound, Toda struck out eight, walked none and scattered three hits to pick up his 10th win of the season.

In the nightcap, the Bobcat offense found power in the form of a three-run shot by DiTerlizzi and a home run by Eitniear. Seven different Bobcats had at least one hit. DiTerlizzi had three hits, with a double to go with his homer. Nate Bauman, Toda and Eitniear all had doubles. Bauman and Lake had two RBI’s each.

Adams started and went four innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits, including a home run. He is 6-1 on the season.

Eitniear, who has been a starter on all four league championship teams, slugged his homerun over the left field fence on his final at-bat on the Whiteford baseball diamond. It was announced earlier in the day that he has been chosen to play in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game Classic.

Adams pitched on all four TCC title teams as well while Alex Kohler and Toda played parts of all four seasons.

The Bobcats have 12 league victories with make-up games against Madison and Sand Creek still unscheduled. Summerfield is 9-2 in league play with a doubleheader against Britton Deerfield and a single game against Madison left. The Bulldogs play Madison Tuesday.

With one more league win or a Summerfield loss, the Bobcats will become the first team in TCC history to win four consecutive outright TCC baseball titles. Summerfield won six straight titles from 1976 to 1981, but shared two of those.
