Whiteford banged out 34 hits and scored 24 runs in two Division 4 district softball games Saturday, locking up their 22nd all-time District championship.
The Bobcats defeated Summerfield 12-3 and Morenci 12-2 to win the District crown. The defending Division 4 state runners-up are 21-12-1 heading into next weekend’s regional at Hudson.
“Playing Division 2 and Division 3 teams prepare us for the pitching we see at Division 4 level,” said Bobcat coach Kris Hubbard.
Lindsey Walker picked up two victories, striking out nine vs. Summerfield and five vs. Morenci.
At the plate, Walker had a single, three-run homerun, two walks and three RBI in the opening game vs. Summerfield. Madison Durden had three singles, a double and an RBI. Milly Iott had a pair of singles and three RBI. Karsyn Berns-Moore had three singles and an RBI. Katie Lipp had two hits, including a double. Mallory Simmons had a single and a double and Baylee Baldwin added a double for the Bobcats.
In the second game, Walker had two singles and a double and two more RBI. Simmons had two hits and three RBI. Iott had three hits and scored three runs. Baldwin had a pair of singles and an RBI. Durden had a single and two RBI. Berns-Moore had a pair of singles, as did Samantha Overmann. Jessica Link added a single and a double.
The Bobcats will play Burr Oak next weekend at Hudson.
Whiteford has won three consecutive districts and five out of the last six seasons.
