Bobcats advance to Division 8 District final with 51-8 win over Lenawee Christian

OTTAWA LAKE — Whiteford’s defense stood tall Friday night as the Bobcats defeated the No. 1 ranked Lenawee Christian Cougars 51-14 to advance to the second round of the Division 8 state playoffs.

The Bobcat defense came out aggressive, grabbing interceptions on two of Lenawee Christian’s first three possessions – one by Nick Marchant and one by Devon Shaw – and helped Whiteford jump out to a 38-0 halftime lead. Whiteford led 51-0 in the third quarter, forcing a running clock, before LCS scored its two touchdowns.

The victory was the 24th straight for Whiteford, the longest win streak in Monroe County Region history.

Zack Bertz rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Logan Murphy rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown. D’Ondre Shaw had a rushing touchdown and Ty Eitniear threw TD passes to Bradyn Clark-Gilmore and Hunter Lake.

Lake led the defense with seven tackles. Clark-Gilmore recovered a fumble and Murphy and Bertz each had six tackles.

Whiteford will play at Reading in the Division 8 District final. Reading beat Pittsford, 65-48.
