MORENCI – Whiteford’s softball team is 5-1 and 2-0 in the Tri-County Conference after a doubleheader sweep of Morenci Wednesday, 8-0 and 12-6.
Lindsey Walker picked up the win in both games. She struck out 12 and allowed just three hits in the opener while going four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs in the second game.
Karsyn Berns-Moore had five singles on the day, scored four runs and stole two bases. Baylee Baldwin had two hits, including a triple, and 5 RBIs. Jessica Link and Katie Lipp had three RBIs apiece with Walker, Sophia Dauterman, Mallory Simmons, Milly Iott and Madison Durden getting three hits on the day.
Lipp made a great catch in centerfield to end a bases-loaded rally by Morenci (0-2).
