Tony DuPree lit a fire under the Whiteford Bobcat sports season in 1982-83, setting a record for rushing yards in a season for the county and winning Player of the Year honors from Tower 98’s radio station.
Because Erie Mason cut its football team before the season, the Bobcats had only eight games. DuPree set the county rushing record anyway, rushing for 1,442 yards in a fantastic season that drew big crowds to the Whiteford football games.
On the basketball floor, Whiteford’s boys won 20 games for the first time in school history.
Here’s a recap of the 1982-83 sports year.
