Whiteford’s softball team captured the Class D state championship in the spring of 1984, climaxing yet another highly-successful sports campaign for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats had never even won a District title when the 1984 post-season began and finished runner-up in the ultra-tough Tri-County Conference softball standings. But, when it came tournament time the Bobcats were unstoppable.
The rest of the school year was a good one, too. The volleyball and basketball teams won league titles and Everett DuPree had an outstanding season in boys basketball, becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer to date.
