MORENCI – Whiteford’s softball team clinched the 2021 TCC championship Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep over Morenci.
The Bobcats are 23-3 and 10-0 in league play after beat the Bulldogs 10-0 and 12-0.
Unity Nelson and Berlynn Keller each pitched 1-hit shutouts for Whiteford. Nelson had 13 strikeouts in the opener while Keller compiled nine strikeouts in the second game.
Patrina Marsh had two hits in the first game and Keller three in the second.
The TCC title is the 13th all-time for the Bobcats and gives them back-to-back league titles as they also won the 2019 league title.
Whiteford has a doubleheader with Summerfield remaining in league play.
The No. 6 ranked Bobcats take on Monroe SMCC on Saturday in a doubleheader pitting two highly ranked teams. The Kestrels were ranked No. 3 in the most recent Division 3 coaches association poll.
