It was a stellar debut for Erie Mason.
The Eagles finished the 2020-21 TCC sports season with six championships, the most of any league school. Madison captured four league titles to move into third place on the all-time TCC list of schools with league championships.
Whiteford now has 81 all-time league championships, three behind leader Sand Creek (see chart below).
Erie Mason joined the TCC this season. They won league championships in football, boys cross country, girls basketball, boys basketball, baseball and boys track.
Madison took top honors in volleyball for the fifth straight season, wrestling, golf and girls track for the 14th straight time. This was the first season that wrestling was an official TCC sport.
The only other TCC schools to win championships during the 2020-21 school year was Morenci in girls cross country and Whiteford in softball.
The Aggies did not win a league title in any sport for the first time since 2014-15.
By winning his 14th league title as a head coach, Madison’s Josh Powers is now tied for second on the list of all-time league championships by coach. Ernie Ayers of Sand Creek remains in first place with 31. Powers is now tied with Whiteford’s Kris Hubbard at 25 all-time titles.
Whiteford’s Matt VanBrandt became the first coach in league history with TCC baseball and softball titles to their credit. Madison’s Erik Thompson coached the Trojans to the TCC golf championship, his sixth all-time, tying Summerfield’s Bob Howard for the most all-time golf titles.
