OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford swept Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central Thursday, winning 13-0 and 5-0.
“SMCC put the ball in play more than any other team we have played,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “They challenged us defensively and our team played well. In game two, SMCC’s Alayna Pinkleman really worked her change up. She made an adjustment after game one and really had us off balance at times.”
Whiteford’s Berlynn Keller threw four hitless innings and struck out for in the opener. Anna VanBrandt, Ambrelle Billau and Aly VanBrandt had multiple hits.
Alyssa Ulery also had a key hit and some heads-up baserunning ignited the Bobcats.
In game two, Unity Nelson threw a complete game no-hitter while striking out 14.
The Bobcats play Toledo Whitmer Monday.
“Whitmer is 7-0 in their league and their entire lineup will pressure us,” Coach VanBrandt said. “That is the mentality of this team – let’s play the best we can today, but when the scoreboard shuts off, we get ready for the next challenge. They simply love to compete.”
