HILLSDALE — Whiteford’s 4×800 Relay team set a school record Saturday while finishing second at the Hillsdale Invitational.
The Bobcats – Keegan Masters, Ryan Oberle, Nick Oberle and Ty Ruddy – finished with a time of 8:41.34.
The previous record of 8:47.2 was held by Greg Keeling, Brandon Iott, David Lindsay and Ryan Klima.
“We have been eyeing this record all year,” said Jay Yockey, the middle distance coach for the Bobcat track and field team. “I’m glad they got it. This is a group of kids that enjoy running and have worked together to achieve this goal. This isn’t a four-person achievement, this is a team achievement. “
Yockey said the boys track team at Whiteford is on a new path to success.
“It’s nice to see a boys record broken,” he said. “It’s the first boys record since 2008. At that time their was a group of kids in 2007/8 that set the majority of the records. We are at the start of developing a program to surpass those achievements. When the community supported the new track, the path was set for another era in the Whiteford track program.”
