Whiteford’s baseball team moved a step closer to the outright TCC baseball title last week by sweeping Summerfield, 9-3 and 10-0, and beat a solid Airport team 6-0 on Saturday.
The Bobcats improved to 20-4 overall and 10-0 in the TCC.
In Game 1 against Summerfield, Cole Crouch struck out nine in just 4.1 innings of work with Nate Stevens getting the final eight outs, seven on strikeouts. Luke Rasor had two doubles and Logan Tammerine hit a triple. Stevens also had a pair of hits while Ryin Ruddy knocked in two.
In the second game, Cole Giesige started and went one inning and got the win. He had three hits at the plate. Shea Ruddy had two hits and a pair of RBIs and Stevens two hits. Giesige, Levi Hillard and Stevens all had doubles. Four Whiteford pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in six innings.
The victory gave Whiteford at least a share of the TCC championship with a doubleheader against Erie Mason coming up. Madison is in second place in the league at 8-2.
Giesige and Hillard combined on a four-hitter Saturday to shutout Airport. Giesige struck out four in five innings of work while Hillard got the final six outs. Tammerine had three hits, including two doubles. Shea Ruddy, Giesige and Rasor had two hits apiece. Tammerine knocked in two runs and Shea Ruddy had two stolen bases
