Whiteford football schedule announced for 2022

By DOUG DONNELLY

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford will start the 2022 varsity football season with three non-league opponents and play two schools for the first time in school history this year.

The schedule begins Friday, Aug. 26 at home against Blissfield, which has become the traditional opener for the Bobcats. Whiteford has played the Royals in the season opener every year since 2012 and 30 previous times all-time.

Whiteford will play Ida in Week 2, a second consecutive game against a Lenawee County Athletic Association opponent. In Week 3 the Bobcats will host Detroit Loyola, a powerhouse in Division 7 for the last several seasons.

Loyola went 6-6 last year, making the playoffs with a 4-5 record and reaching the Division 7 regional final. The Bull Dogs have made the playoffs 14 of the past 15 seasons. The 2014 team won a state title.

The Bobcats open its four-game Tri-County Conference slate on Friday, Sept. 16 at Madison. It’s the 50th season for the TCC. Whiteford will play Madison, Summerfield, Sand Creek and Erie Mason in league games.

Whiteford will make the return visit to Kalamazoo Loy Norrix, a Division 1 school. Last year Whiteford beat Loy Norrix for its first win ever against a D1 school.

In week 9 the Bobcats will host Pioneer (Ohio) North Central, a school located in northwestern Ohio playing its first year of 11-man football. North Central is playing several TCC schools as it attempts to gain a footing in 11-man football in the area.

Whiteford is coming off an 11-2 season.
