Bobcats open District tournament with first-ever meeting with Arbor Prep

By DOUG DONNELLY

ERIE – Whiteford will take on Ypsilanti Arbor Prep tonight in the opening round of the Division 3 District at Erie Mason.

The Bobcats will take a 15-7 regular season record into the game against the 8-12 Gators. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

Whiteford and Arbor Prep have never met.

The Bobcats are seeking their first district championship since 2014 and 12th all-time. The 15 wins this season is the most for Whiteford since 2017-18 and most in Nick Abalos’ five years as head coach.

Evan Parker is the Bobcats top scorer, coming in at 16.5 points per game. Luke Rasor averages 13.0 points with Hunter DeBarr (7.6) and Shea Ruddy (6.3) right behind them. Rasor is the top rebounder at 7.2 per game and also leads the team with 69 assists and with a 72.3 percent shooting percentage from the free throw line. Ruddy is the team leader in steals with 54.

This is a geographically odd district with one team from Lenawee County, three from Monroe County, one from the Downriver area and a Washtenaw County entry.

Blissfield (5-15) beat Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (10-12) earlier this season and face off Monday to open the district. The winner will play Tri-County Conference champion Erie Mason (16-6) on Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, the Whiteford/Ypsilanti Arbor Prep winner will take on No. 2 seed Riverview Gabriel Richard (15-4). Richard spent much of the season in the Division 3 state rankings and lost in the Catholic High School League championship game last week to Detroit Loyola.
