
MADISON TOWNSHIP – Whiteford will send 12 athletes to the state track meet after the Bobcats finished sixth in the boys regional and seventh in the girls regional.
“What a competitive region we had this year,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “There was less than a 30-point spread from one to seventh. We really had a fantastic day and I’m excited to know that we have six boys and six girls going to state.”
Brek Ruddy was regional champion in the shot put, setting a school record at 14-4.
Jess Saylor was second in the 400 (50.04) and anchored the 4×400 Relay team that set a school record, placed second and qualified for states. The others on the relay are Nate Andrews, Brek Ruddy and Brody Hillard.
The 4×200 placed fifth with Drew Ruddy, Antonio Nachtrab, Hillard and Andrews (1:32.76) but qualified for the states on time.
The 4×100 did the same and finished third with Drew Ruddy, Nachtrab, Hillard and Andrews and set a school record (43.59).
The girls have qualifiers in the discus, 200, 400, 4×400, and the 4×800.
The 4×400 Relay of Brielle White, Sierra DeBarr, Braelynn Chiotti and Briar Wing finished second and set a school record (4:14.26).
The 4×800 Relay of Briar Wing, Breslin Wing, DeBarr and Chiotti was second. Nina Bauman qualified for the state meet in the discus by placing second (110-2).
White qualified for the state meet in the 200 and 400. She was second Saturday in the 400 (1:00.01).
